All of the Facts

Everything you need to know about DLT

Dress Like Taylor is a style site focused on Taylor Swift's style.
Finally decided to update this. So here goes. FYI, this is Emiily's point of view. (;

Back in March, of 2008, or so (if not before), I had this idea of making a style site. I was an avid visitor of Dress Like Ashley (visit here.) and I was a big fan of the site. I really enjoyed fashion, what celebrities were wearing, what the latest trends were, and that sort of thing. So you can see why DLA held my attention. When I first started visiting DLA, around February, if not before, I was just figuring out about all the "Dress Like" sites. By the beginning of March, I had Dress Like Ashley and Miley Fashion (visit here.) as two of my many homepages. I was hooked on the style sites concept.

I was a big fan of Taylor Swift since around the time Tim McGraw came out. I heard about her, and being a big fan of country music, fell in love with her. Her lyrics were true, she was gorgeous, her style was fantastic, and her voice was amazing. She quickly became one of my role models. After getting hooked on style sites, I then searched around for one for Taylor. After searching, and not finding one, I finally decided, hey, what if I made one?. I had already owned FrozenSUNSET (view here.) since November 28th, 2005, so I had experience in websites. The idea at first, seemed weird to me. But I quickly decided I liked it. It became my new project.

I started working on the site, "behind closed doors." I was finding a few styles, working on how I wanted everything to work out, those sorts of things. I was getting excited. Then, I needed a co-owner to help me with the site. I posted on FS about needing someone. Around the same time, Chance was starting this zine called Change. I knew about Chance from Erin's blog (view here.). I volunteered to help with Change. And Chance then, volunteered to help with what would become, Dress Like Taylor. Chance & I had already "blog hopped" before, and so we knew of eachother. We had the connection of both enjoying Taylor Swift, so we automatically clicked.

The site was made. A host was found (see: Erin). And the site was almost ready to be launched. Suddenly, however, we received many comments [and emails] about how we had 'stolen' from Taylor Trends (view here.). I got angry, confused, and hurt. I knew for a fact we hadn't stolen from TT. I emailed Shannon, TT's owner, and asked why she would accuse us of stealing. Considering our site hadn't even had our grand opening, and news was spreading fast that DLT had "stolen." She informed me she hadn't blamed us, and instead had been blaming another site.

All was well, and Shannon, Chance, and I all became good friends. The site finally grand opened on July 1st, 2008. Throughout the year of 2008, we lived on Erin's site. (note: We LOVE her for hosting us!) We lasted through vacations, "stealing" accusations, and everything else that came along with owning a website. At the end of 2008, Chance and I were doing some serious thinking. We were at dlt.lovechem.net. We figured, it was time for a change.

Our photobucket bandwidth was constantly being used up, meaning our site was constantly having problems with the images. And considering our site is mostly images, we were constantly freaking out about it. Slowly, we change from .png to .jpg. And then. We bought a domain. We became dressliketaylor.net. It was awesome. A great Christmas gift, if you'd like to say that. After moving the site, we became slightly inactive, due to school and whatnot.

Finally, the site was working, and completely up again. We started updating more, and the site was thriving. (Just ask Chance. She loves the map. She loves seeing where all you visitors come from.. ;) ) We were getting more visitors, and we were extremely excited. The site turned one on July 1st of 2009. It went by so fast. For the anniversary, we opened Stolen Style, a network site. Already opened was our forum and Dress for Less. We also had already hired new staff members to help us out. (It was a hard choice to choose only three new staffers.)

Other than various "stealing" accusations that we still receive, the site's doing well, and is how you see it now. The stealing accusations are pathetic, and although we get annoyed and upset everytime we see them, we and Shannon know they aren't true.

We hope Dress Like Taylor lives on for many more years.
